Le yokozuna Hakuho a infligé une défaite à l’ôzeki Kotoshogiku vendredi lors du dernier combat de la journée lui permettant de passer seul en tête du tournoi deux jours avant la fin.
Son co-leader Kaisei a perdu pour la deuxième journée consécutive aux mains de Goeido laissant le grand yokozuna prendre un peu plus d’avance sur ses rivaux.
Hakuho qui avait perdu le match avec Goeido de justesse jeudi, a décroché cet après-midi sa onzième victoire, et pourrait prétendre à un septième titre consécutif s’il parvient à battre l’ôzeki Kisenosato demain lors de leur 51ème face à face. Le champion mongol est talonné par Kaisei, Terunofuji et Ikioi qui sont à 10-3.
Le brésilien Kaisei a donc perdu la première place qu’il occupait dans ce tournoi après que Goeido ai réussi à obtenir une prise sur le côté gauche de sa ceinture avant de le projeter à terre par uwatenage. L’ôzeki parvient au kachi koshi avec huit victoires.
Harumafuji a battu Kisenosato ce qui améliore son score à 9-4 créant l’égalité entre les deux hommes. Le yokozuna a connu une deuxième semaine difficile avec trois défaites en quatre matchs. La possibilité d’un nouveau titre est d’ores et déjà écartée pour lui.
Le sekiwake Myogiryu a vaincu le maegashira 4 Tokushoryu (5-8) et obtient une sixième victoire tandis que Terunofuji conserve la précieuse place de second en battant le maegashira 8 Takayasu.
Dans la rencontre entre komusubi, c’est Tochiozan qui a pris facilement l’avantage sur Ichinojo mais les deux san’yaku ne sont pas encore à l’abri de retomber en maegashira ; les deux komusubi doivent encore gagner leurs deux derniers matchs pour éviter le perdre leur rang.
En jûryô les leaders restent inchangés puisqu’il s’agit toujours de Kagamio et de Hidenoumi.
Dans les divisions inférieurs les champions sont : Takagi pour les makushita, Aiyama en sandanme et enfin Ura chez les jonokuchi. Tous ont terminé sur un score parfait de 7-0.

Hakuho seizes lead, closes in on 7th straight title
TOKYO (Kyodo) — Mongolian yokozuna Hakuho came roaring back from a shock defeat to beat ozeki Kotoshogiku on Friday and seize sole possession of the lead at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament with two rounds of bouts remaining.
Overnight co-leader Kaisei lost for the second day in a row at the hands of Goeido, and this time Hakuho cashed in, taking control at the charge and flooring Kotoshogiku (6-7) with a routine « uwatenage » overarm throw.
Hakuho, stunned by Goeido on Thursday, improved to 11-2 and could claim his seventh consecutive title if he beats ozeki Kisenosato in their 51st meeting on Saturday and the second-placed trio of Kaisei, Terunofuji and Ikioi, each at 10-3, all lose.
Brazilian No. 11 maegashira Kaisei faces top-ranked Tochinoshin, Terunofuji is up against fellow sekiwake Myogiryu and 10th-ranked Ikioi takes on komusubi Ichinojo.
Kaisei was saddled with another painful defeat as Goeido got a left-handed grip on his belt and sent him to the dirt by uwatenage to secure a majority of wins.
Harumafuji improved to 9-4 with a solid win over Kisenosato (9-4). The Mongolian grand champion tore in low at the charge and got his hand on the back of Kisenosato’s neck and slapped him to the sandy surface.
At sekiwake, Myogiryu took down fourth-ranked maegashira Tokushoryu (5-8) to score a sixth win, and Terunofuji followed up Thursday’s upset win over Kisenosato by getting behind Takayasu (9-4) and dispatching the eighth-ranked maegashira with a powerful shove.
Tochiozan claimed bragging rights at sumo’s fourth-highest rank of komusubi by easily barging out Mongolian behemoth Ichinojo. Both wrestlers still need to win their final two bouts to avoid a losing record.
Ikioi defeated third-ranked Sadanoumi (6-7) by oshidashi.
