Hatsu basho 2015 : résultats de la quatrième journée
Le Kokugikan profite du regain de popularité du sumo pour afficher une nouvelle fois son drapeau annonçant qu’il est complet. Hier déjà, ça faisait 18 ans que cette situation de c’était pas produite pour un troisième jour de l’hatsu basho.
Les trois yokozuna sont sortis vainqueurs de leur rencontre même si pour Hakuhô ce n’était pas gagné d’avance. Celui qui est en passe de devenir le plus grand champion de l’histoire s’est fait bloquer les deux bras par Terunofuji empêchant toute prise. Hakuhô ne pouvant saisir le mawashi de son compatriote est resté immobile cherchant à se libérer ; quand ce fut fait, le yokozuna a profité du moment pour le projeter à terre.
Harumafuji se montre très rapide avec un esprit de combativité maximum pour ce basho. Il faut dire que l’année dernière il n’en a remporté aucun mais s’il continue sur cette même lancée, il pourrait bien créer la surprise. Tout comme la veille, Harumafuji a fait un tachiai tout en rapidité puis s’est débattu avec force pour battre Endô.
Ikoi peine depuis le début et ce mercredi Kakuryû ne lui a pas facilité la tâche en le battant une quatrième fois. Si le yokozuna est à la recherche d’un premier titre depuis sa promotion en mai dernier, le maegashira 2 n’a toujours remporté la moindre victoire pour le moment.
Kisenosato qui a perdu mardi n’a pas laissé Tochinoshin lui infliger une nouvelle défaite. L’ôzeki a donné tout son maximum pour arriver à vaincre le géorgien.
Ichinojo qui participe pour la seconde fois à un tournoi en tant que sekiwake est allé à la facilité pour prendre l’avantage sur Kotoshigiku. L’ôzeki kadoban n’a pas eu le temps de riposter quand Ichinojo a fait pression sur sa nuque pour gagner par hatakikomi.
Gôeidô n’a pas eu difficulté pour prendre le dessus sur Tochiôzan envoyant rapidement le komusubi hors du dohyo.
Le bulgare Aoiyama a voulu mettre toutes les chances de son côté en privilégiant un sumo offensif contre Takayasu. Le sekiwake a assailli le komusubi de puissantes gifles mais Takayasu a su garder son calme pour finalement inverser les rôles. Takayasu accède enfin à sa première victoire.
Okinoumi en battant Jokoryu reste invaincu au même titre que les yokozuna Hakuhô et Harumafuji.
Bonne journée pour les vétérans également avec les victoires de Aminishiki, Kyokutenhô et Wakanosato.
A l’inverse, les lutteurs Ikoi, Tochinoshin, Sokokurai et Chiyotairyu ferment la marche avec déjà quatre défaites.
En jûryô, les débuts du benjamin Ônoshô connaissent des hauts et des bas avec un score actuel de 2-2 suite à sa défaite contre Masunoyama.
Le jeune Kagayaki âgé de 20 ans continue à briller avec un parcours sans faute après sa victoire sur Chiyoo.
Hidenoumi qui combat comme Kagayaki pour la seconde fois en division jûryô rencontre quelques difficultés avec seulement une victoire pour l’heure actuelle.

Yokozuna pair Hakuho, Harumafuji stay unbeaten, set pace
Record-seeking yokozuna Hakuho and compatriot Harumafuji sent their opponents out to remain unbeaten after four days of competition in the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan on Jan. 14.
Hakuho, who needs just one more title to set a new sumo record of 33 career championships, failed to keep maegashira No. 2 Terunofuji (2-2) from getting inside his defenses, but waited patiently until he had enough leverage to twist the big rank-and-filer off his feet and onto the dirt. The bout was not as lopsided as most involving the alpha yokozuna, but he was never in any trouble.
In yet another solid and spirited performance, unbeaten Harumafuji was a ball of fire against maegashira No. 3 Endo (1-3), peppering him with a barrage of thrusts, turning him around and plowing him out before he could mount any sort of a counterattack. If Harumafuji can keep this up–and considering his past meltdowns that is a big if–he could prove to be an interesting challenger for Hakuho.
Kakuryu, who at this early stage is already playing catch-up because of his upset loss on Jan. 12, easily defeated maegashira No. 2 Ikioi for his third win. The newest of the yokozuna trio calmly absorbed the winless Ikioi’s attack at the face-off and finished him off with a pulling down technique.
The ozeki wrestlers put in a better–but still not flawless–showing.
Rebounding from his loss the day before, ozeki Kisenosato withstood top maegashira Tochinoshin’s thrusts to his throat as he worked the belt, which he used to defuse the winless Georgian’s onslaught and walk him backward over the edge.
But ozeki Kotoshogiku paid the price for coming out dangerously low against Ichinojo and was pulled off his feet when the Mongolian sekiwake caught hold of him by the scruff of the neck.
Kotoshogiku has now lost two bouts in a row. He needs to pull off a winning record by the end of the tournament to retain his rank. Ichinojo is doing just the opposite–this is his second win after losing his first two matches.
Goeido, who is also fighting for his rank but has three wins, sent komusubi Tochiozan (1-3) out of the ring after deftly deflecting his attack at the face-off.
Sekiwake Aoiyama relentlessly pounded komusubi Takayasu around the ring, scoring with a series of throat thrusts and briefly knocking his opponent off balance. But when he moved in for the kill, he let the komusubi get inside at his belt and was thrown down for his second loss. It was Takayasu’s first win.
